His wife had to sell the house within six months. The kids changed schools. Watching that unfold changed the way I thought about what I wanted to do with my career.
I spent the first decade of my career in finance, banking, lending, all of it. The work was fine, but it never felt like it mattered. When I got licensed in life insurance, something clicked. I could actually help families avoid the kind of disaster I watched my friend's family go through.
I went independent early because I didn't want to be limited to one carrier's products. After 15+ years in this business, I've helped hundreds of families find coverage that fits their budget and actually protects the people who matter most to them. That's the work I want to keep doing.

My background is in education, which is probably why I approach every client meeting like a teaching moment. Before I joined James in the insurance business, I spent eight years as an elementary school teacher. I learned that people don't tune out because they're not smart. They tune out when you don't explain things in a way that connects.
That's what I bring to Shield Life. I take complex insurance concepts, like riders, cash value, and conversion options, and break them down until they actually make sense. I want you to leave our conversation feeling like you understand exactly what you're buying and why.
