About Maria & Tom
The family behind Hometown Medicare Help.
Our Story
Our Story
We’re Maria and Tom Rodriguez, and we’ve called Lexington home for over 30 years. Tom grew up here, and Maria moved from Louisville right after college. We met at a friend’s barbecue, and the rest, as they say, is history.
We didn’t set out to start an insurance agency. Tom was working in financial services and Maria was teaching middle school when Tom’s mother, Rosa, turned 65. Watching her struggle through the Medicare process, the confusing mailings, the conflicting advice, the feeling of being sold to instead of helped, lit a fire in both of us.
In 2014, we made the decision together: Tom would get his insurance license, and we’d open an agency focused on doing things the right way. Maria joined full-time a year later. We’ve been working side by side ever since, helping families in Lexington and across Kentucky navigate Medicare with confidence.
Twelve years later, we’ve helped hundreds of families find the right Medicare coverage. We still operate from the same Main Street office, we still make fresh coffee every morning, and we still treat every client like a neighbor, because that’s exactly what they are.

Maria Rodriguez
Licensed Insurance Agent & Co-Founder
Before joining the agency full-time, Maria spent twelve years as a middle school teacher, and it shows. She has a gift for breaking down complicated topics into plain language and making people feel at ease. As the first point of contact for most new clients, Maria sets the tone: warm, patient, and never rushed.
Her passion is making Medicare understandable. She believes no one should feel overwhelmed by their healthcare options, and she takes genuine pride in watching the look of relief on someone’s face when things finally click. If you call the office, chances are Maria will be the one who picks up.

Tom Rodriguez
Licensed Insurance Agent & Co-Founder
Tom came to Medicare from the financial services world, where he spent over a decade helping families plan for the future. He brings that same analytical, detail-oriented approach to plan comparisons, cross-referencing formularies, provider networks, and out-of-pocket costs so clients can make truly informed decisions.
When he’s not crunching numbers, Tom is out in the community. He coaches Little League, serves on the Lexington Rotary board, and volunteers at the Fayette County Senior Center. He believes that being a good agent starts with being a good neighbor.

Part of the Community

For us, being part of Lexington isn’t just about running a business. It’s about showing up. Tom has served on the Rotary Club board for six years, and Maria regularly visits the Fayette County Senior Center to host free Medicare Q&A sessions.
We also give presentations at local church groups, community centers, and library events throughout the year. If your organization would like us to speak about Medicare basics, we’re always happy to help, no cost, no sales pitch, just good information.
